Phong was among the first generation of dot.com dreamers of Vietnam. After graduate in 1996, he first worked at the IT Centre of the Vietnam Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
He then moved to work for the Vietnam Disaster Management Unit (DMU), a joint mechanism between the Government of Vietnam and UNDP.
In 1998, he started his own business focusing on primary IT services such as hosting, mail server and web design. He successfully ran a series of cyber cafés in Hanoi back to 1998 – 1999 when most of Vietnam had no access to internet.
In 2000, Phong founded VIETNET with focus on e-commerce. He has invested in a number of tourism platforms (www.vietnamtourism.com.vn & www.vietnamhouse.vn) and online news website (www.vietnamtoday.net & www.tintucvietnam.net).
Phong has a strong network in the hospitality and media industry of Vietnam.  He is also very well-connected with local business community. He worked for the transportation pioneer Mai Linh Group in 2014 – 2015.
